Ocean City firefighters contained a fire at Happy Days at 960 Asbury Avenue in Ocean City on Saturday, June 21.
The Ocean City Fire Department controlled a fire at Happy Days (960 Asbury Avenue) on Saturday morning.
The 1950s-themed ice-cream parlor and eatery was closed and unoccupied when firefighters arrived at 10 a.m. and nobody was injured, but the building likely suffered more than $100,000 in damage, according to Ocean City Fire Chief Chris Breunig.
The "stubborn" fire started in the kitchen and food-preparation area, and firefighters had it contained within 45 minutes after forcing entry into the building.
Off-duty personnel assisted in the firefighting effort and mutual aid companies provided backup at Ocean City fire stations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Breunig said. No neighboring business was damaged.
Traffic in the area was backed up as 10th Street between West Avenue and Asbury Avenue was closed.
Happy Days opened in 2012 at its corner location at 10th Street and Asbury Avenue.
