The dance fitness program at Ocean City High School continues to grow in popularity with more than 100 freshmen among the approximately 260 students participating.
For three days of each four-day cycle, the students study dance for traditional physical education credits. Though not all students are part of it, dance is one of the elective tracks for the new School Choice Program that has brought almost 200 new students to the district.
The students performed for their peers in shows on Tuesday (June 3 with modern, Bollywood, hip-hop and Broadway dances in their repertoire.
About 95 percent of the freshmen will return to the program next year, and the school is auditioning students for an advanced class.
"I'm really excited about it," said Alyssa Preis, who teaches the classes in the new program.
Preis said she plans a more formal showcase of student talent next year.
