Ocean City Celebrates the Fourth on the Fifth

  • Things To Do
Ocean City celebrated the Fourth of July a day late but found perfect weather for the postponed festivities. Rain, wind and rough surf from distant Hurricane Arthur combined to wash out Ocean City's Independence Day event schedule on Friday (July 4). But Saturday brought nothing but sun and blue skies. The Gardens Civic Association Fourth of July Bike Parade saw one of its biggest crowds ever — with an estimated 400 to 500 bicyclists participating. The traditional event includes families riding decorated bicycles on a route from the Ocean City-Longport Bridge to E. Atlantic Boulevard. The event kicked off a day that saw peak crowds on the beach, boardwalk, shops and restaurants. Even with the ocean water temperature in the low 60s, beachgoers hit the water. And seemingly everybody on the island converged on the downtown blocks of the beach and boardwalk for a 9:30 p.m. fireworks display that lit the skies. See the photo gallery above for some images of the fun in Ocean City.
