Wilson Re-Elected as Council President; Mayor and Councilmen Sworn In

Tony Wilson was elected to serve as City Council president in Ocean City for another term, from July 1 to June 30, 2015. Tony Wilson was chosen unanimously by the seven-member City Council on Tuesday to return for another year as council president. Mike Allegretto was re-elected unanimously as vice president. Wilson, who was elected to council in 2012, was named council president last July and has served one year. Allegretto, who was just elected to his third term on council, served as president before Wilson. The selection of officers was part of the annual reorganization meeting at noon July 1 on the Ocean City Music Pier. The event also included the inauguration and swearing-in of Mayor Jay Gillian for his second four-year term and of Councilmen-elect Allegretto (third term), Keith Hartzell (third term) and Pete Madden (first term).

Gillian thanked City Council, city employees, his senior staff, his Wonderland Pier staff, his campaign workers, his family and his wife, Michele, for their support in his first term and in his re-election campaign. He said the "state of the city is strong — financially and otherwise." And he vowed to continue to make city infrastructure, particularly roads and drainage, a priority in his next term. He pointed to a boardwalk replacement project already under way and a beach replenishment project for the south end scheduled for the fall. He promised to find a way to take care of Ocean City's other "B," the bay, by finding a way to dredge shallow lagoons and channels. The reorganization meeting also included approval of the following nominations:
  • A Resolution Consenting to City Council’s Appointment of Councilman Antwan L. McClellan to the Ocean City Planning Board
  • A Resolution Consenting to City Council’s Appointment of Councilman Michael DeVlieger as Liaiso to the Utility Advisory Commission
  • A Resolution Appointing Michael J. Allegretto to the Tourist Development Commission
  • A Resolution Appointing Michael J. Allegretto to the Business and Neighborhood Development Association (B.A.N.D.)
