With the purchase of a $10 wristband, Playland's Castaway Cove will offers unlimited ride access from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
All proceeds will benefit the Cooley's Anemia Foundation. The fundraiser was organized, in part, by Frank Pileiro, an Ocean City resident whose daughter, Rachel, lives with the relatively rare blood disorder.
Rachel is an 8-year-old second-grader at Ocean City Primary School.
Playland is on the Ocean City Boardwalk between 10th and 11th streets. The event will feature raffles for everything from beach tags to restaurant gift certificates. T-shirts will be available.
Pileiro said the genetic disease requires Rachel to receive blood transfusions every three weeks. But while it used to be rare for children with Cooley's Anemia to live beyond their teens, researchers are making progress in extending their lives.
Rachel Pileiro"The people at Playland have been wonderful," Pileiro said.
