Statement on the results of the 2023 Ocean City Board of Education election:
New information has come to light that with the results of mail-in ballots received after Election Day, I have lost my bid for reelection.
I want to congratulate the three successful candidates, Michael Allegretto, Jocelyn Palaganas and Corey Niemiec, and wish them much success when they begin their tenure on the board in January.
I also want to acknowledge and thank Cecilia Gallelli-Keyes, as well as my running mates, Kevin Schaffer and Steve Flogaus, for a moment.
In standing for election and being ready to serve in this volunteer role, for talking with voters about the issues that matter to the families and taxpayers of our great community, and for running positive issue-oriented campaigns, they showed themselves to be incredible public servants.
I will pray for Michael, Jocelyn and Corey and for the school district. The students, faculty and staff of the Ocean City School District are second to none and deserve the very best in terms of leadership and resources.
I pray that the next board will listen to stakeholders and exercise a deliberate, prudent process to come to consensus in selecting a permanent superintendent.
To my colleagues on the board — I have but one wish — that you fight for the children and families in this district. If you do that, everything else will fall into place.
Again, to the incoming board members, and to my colleagues, you have my sincerest hope for the blessings of a bright future. May God grant you much wisdom and judgment as you undertake your responsibilities.
