Flower Show Returns to Music Pier

  • News
After two years as a virtual event, the Ocean City Flower Show will return to the Music Pier from Friday to Sunday, June 3 to June 5. The 48-year-old tradition presented by the Garden Club of Ocean City features floral creations and displays from enthusiasts of all ages. Awards are given in a variety of categories for artistic design and horticulture. This year’s theme is “Careers – All That You Can Do.” The event also features a small sales pavilion. The public is invited to check out the beautiful displays. Show hours are 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free (donations to the Garden Club are optional). In other upcoming events, a fireworks display will be launched from the beach at Fifth Street at 9 p.m. Thursday, June 2, to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of Gillian’s amusements on the Ocean City Boardwalk. The annual Cop Chase 5K is set for Saturday, June 4, and registration is open. The scenic 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) race will start at 8 a.m. at Sixth Street and Boardwalk, travel down the Boardwalk and on the streets at the northern end of Ocean City, then finish on the Ocean City High School track. Online registration and more information are available at
runsignup.com/ocnjcopchase5k. Race-day registration and packet pickup is at the Ocean City High School track with parking accessible from the beach block of Fifth Street. All proceeds benefit the Ocean City Police Benevolent Association, which supports scholarships for high school seniors, a Christmas toy drive, free bike helmets and other community projects. During and after the race, the OCPBA will host a series of non-competitive fitness events for kids ages 5 to 12. There is no charge for the kids' events. All children who participate will receive a ribbon and a chance to win a bicycle from the Tuckahoe Bike Shop. The Skato With Kato skateboarding celebration is set for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Ocean City Skate Park at Fifth Street and Asbury Avenue. The event features a competition, music and fun. It’s named for Kato, a white German shepherd from the Humane Society of Ocean City, the city’s no-kill animal shelter. All proceeds from the event benefit the Humane Society. A concert by LNJ Sessions will begin at 2:30 p.m., and the skate competition starts at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free (with donations accepted and appreciated). There will be a $20 registration fee for each skater. Kato and his friends from the Humane Society will be on hand.
