'Earlier Than the Bird' Event Kicks Off Downtown Holidays on Saturday

Downtown Ocean City will be host to its annual 'Earlier Than the Bird' celebration 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 22. The popular “Earlier than the Bird” pre-holiday shopping spree is set for 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 22. The event includes discounts and stores from Sixth Street to 11th Street on Asbury Avenue, in the city’s downtown business district, recently voted the best in South Jersey
. Shoppers are encouraged to shop early in their pajamas to enjoy the best buys. There will be free turkeys for best-dressed, and free coffee and giveaways at Jon & Patty’s Bistro (Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue), Ocean City Coffee Company (Ninth Street and Asbury Avenue) and Starbuck's (11th Street and Asbury Avenue). The best deals will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Sign up in stores to win up to $150 in gift certificates. From noon to 3 p.m on Saturday and Sunday., there will be free horse and carriage rides and free photos with Santa. Also this weekend, the Christmas Arts and Crafts Festival on the Ocean City Music Pier will feature 75 booths from leading crafters throughout the East Coast. The festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday (Nov. 22 and 23) at the Music Pier, Boardwalk and Moorlyn Terrace. This is the second craft show of the season produced by Norman and JoAnne Schaut who have raised thousands of dollars for local charities with their festivals.
