West Avenue was closed to traffic for about two hours on Tuesday as Ocean City firefighters battled a warehouse fire on the 900 block.

All Ocean City firefighters were recalled and Somers Point provided mutual assistance at a fire in a warehouse behind the Johnson’s Appliance store. The warehouse is separated from the store by an alley.

The fire started at the rear of the building, and the locked-up metal building provided a challenge for firefighters to gain access, Fire Chief Chris Breunig said. But once they were inside and able to see, they were able to quickly extinguish the fire.

Fire investigators were still on the scene at about 11 p.m., and Breunig said at that time, the cause had not been determined.

The building was unoccupied and no firefighters were injured.
