On a beautiful day for competition, the Ocean City girls and boys crew teams made impressive showings Saturday.
The Red Raiders were most definitely in the house at the Garden State Championships Regatta which took place along the Cooper River in Pennsauken and Collingswood in Camden County.
The girls took a pair of gold medals and two silvers, while the boys copped two bronze medals in a regatta featuring the best high school teams in New Jersey.
The girls’ second eight crew coached by Ian Tapp struck gold (Lucy Greene, Alexa Japson, Juliana Giardina, Maggie Clunn, Margaret Kane, Grace Broschard, Emily Culmone, Samantha Perro, and Kira Tracy) as did Coach Kaitlyn Rupert’s Girls Lightweight eight (Maura Siciensky, Laney Guido, Ryleigh Mack, Alexia Schmidt, Carly Dougherty, Rebecca Dubbs, Marian Wisham, Katherine Coffey, and Aura Lopez).
Silver medals went to the Girls Varsity Eight coached by Tapp (Maren Stickley, Avery Panico, Olivia Simone, Sofia Cooper, Meghan Finley, Eve Chiarello, Noelle Michel, Kellie Edwards, and Claudia Scherbin) as well as Coach Kelly Rupert’s Novice Eight (Mackenzie Thurlow, Kate Wilson, Grace Wiley, Lily Dinofa, Hannah Martin, Erin Smith, Carlee Parker, Zoey Driscoll and Riley Fisher).
On the boys side, the Varsity Eight raced to a Bronze medal finish (Mitch Bartello, AJ Oves, Blase Japzon, Greg O’Connell, Luke Hornick, Jack Branin, Seth Pierson, Noah Centrone, and Jake Ruskey).
They are coached by Mike Millar and Kevin Wallace, who also guided the Boys Second Eight to a Bronze finish (Matthew Catanoso, Zach Greger, Jimmy Papperman, Alex Yoa, Max Carter, Eric Love, Danny Millar, Garret Longstaff and David Jefferson).
