A large nor’easter will move up the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of New Jersey on Tuesday (five days into spring), and the fringes of the storm possibly could leave a coating to an inch of snow over the region.
A National Weather Service briefing issued Sunday night predicts precipitation will begin Tuesday and continue into early Tuesday night before tapering off. The precipitation will begin as rain and transition to snow Tuesday evening.
Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 40 mph are expected Tuesday night and Wednesday.
High tides at 4:23 p.m. Tuesday and 4:57 a.m. Wednesday (at the Ninth Street Bridge) could bring minor flooding with the combination of tides, wind and rain.
Wednesday is expected to remain cold with highs not exceeding 40 degrees.
If the storm leaves at least an inch of snow, it would be the 14th time this winter that’s happened.
Strong offshore (northwest) winds Wednesday as the storm moves away could clean up the storm surf for local waveriders. The ocean water temperature was 40.3 degrees on Sunday.
