The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management issued a severe weather alert Sunday based on the latest forecasts.

In a statement, the National Weather Service is warning of the possibility of showers and thunderstorms moving into the area Sunday night and Monday morning.

The main threat will be damaging winds and heavy rainfall, which could lead to flooding in areas with poor drainage.

Storms could cause power outages and downed trees, according to the forecast. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.

Dense fog blanketed parts of the shore through Sunday afternoon.
