United Methodist Communities (UMC) at The Shores, a senior living community located on Bay Avenue in Ocean City, appointed Dawn Zindel to the position of director of Tapestries Memory Care Residence.

In this role, she will assume Tapestries’ oversight, staff management and services, which focus on residents with neurocognitive disorders, related dementias or who experience difficulty with thinking, according to a UMC press release.

Tapestries associates will report directly to Zindel, of Beesley’s Point. Prior to joining UMC, Zindel was director of social services/administrator at Atlantic Adult Day Health Care. She also has 10 years of experience as a social worker.

Zindel has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Marywood University and she is a certified social worker. While in school for social work she volunteered at The Shores.

Pamela H. Garofolo, corporate manager for Tapestries, said, “I am delighted to see Dawn grow the programs and take what we have started to the next level of comfort and person-directed care.”

Comfort Matters is a nationally recognized, accredited program used at The Shores. Its strategies are built upon the latest science and research-based best practices, enabling caregivers to make positive differences in the residents’ lives, according to the release. Tapestries employs multi-skilled and certified associates, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Zindel will be responsible for supervising all aspects of Tapestries’ operations and for maintaining its Comfort Matters certification.

“I am really looking forward to working in an organization that focuses on residents’ comfort and person-directed care. In a few short days, I have already come to love and care for the staff and residents here,” Zindel said.
