Your AC unit will finally catch a break, but you’re not in the clear just yet! Have your HVAC unit inspected
It’s been a hot summer and you shouldn’t leave the house until you’ve had the unit inspected. You’ll certainly be needing a few extra blankets if you come down this winter and discover a problem. If you don’t return until next summer, you may be left in the sweltering heat. By calling a Broadley’s technician, you can rest assured that if there are any issues, they will be caught and fixed. Turn down the thermostat
Make sure you leave the house warm enough to avoid any damages, but cool enough to keep things dry. It’s recommended to set your home between 50 to 60 degrees, any lower and you run the risk of frozen pipes!
Turn off water from main supply point
Turn the water off completely to risk water freezing in the pipes on an extremely cold day. Your pipes could end up cracking and eventually bursting, causing an unimaginable amount of damage. Cracked pipes can burst at any unexpected moment, displacing your family during your vacation at the beach.
Unplug appliances
If you leave your electric on, make sure to unplug appliances such as televisions, computers, stereos, and microwaves. This helps save energy and prevent fires in case of a faulty switch or freak accident while you’re away.
Clean out the fridge
Empty out your freezer as well. If the power goes out for any reason while you’re gone, you want all food removed so that it does not go bad. It is also a good idea to thoroughly clean the actual inside of the refrigerator unit to help prevent the growth of mold and mildew.
