The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas in effect from 8 p.m. Monday through 2 a.m. Tuesday.
Water levels are predicted to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 10:11 p.m. Monday. High tide on the bay side of Strathmere near Corson’s Inlet is at 9:47 p.m. Monday. The NWS predicts a water level of 5.8 feet on the mean low water (MLW) scale, which in the range for “minor” coastal flooding.
By comparison, the water level reached 6.43 feet MLW on Saturday (June 3). Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels.
Water levels are currently predicted to hit 6 feet at 10:41 p.m. Tuesday (June 6), and another Coastal Flood Advisory may be issued.
Residents should be prepared to move vehicles to safe places well in advance of these high tides on Monday and Tuesday. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues In Ocean City are typically at higher elevation.
Parking at all municipal lots is available and free. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).
