The Under the Bridge Rowing Club (UBRC), the only community rowing club in Cape May County, is hosting a fundraiser Saturday at DiOrio’s Circle Café in Somers Point.

The rowing club is located under the 34th Street Bridge in Ocean City. It promotes and develops area amateur rowers — oarsmen and oarswomen — for local, national and international competition in amateur rowing, explained UBRC member and Ocean City resident Jennifer Bowman.

UBRC provides opportunities for high school rowers to coxswain and/or row. UBRC also grants “Volunteer Scholarship” awards to qualifying graduating high school rowers.

“It is our vision to expand our programs to younger children, as well as establish an adaptive program, thereby creating a truly inclusive rowing program,” Bowman said. “In order to fulfill our mission to serve our community, we are in need of equipment. We have been unable to host our big fundraiser for the past two years due to COVID.”

Bowman and her fellow rowers are asking people to come out to DiOrio’s, located at 10 MacArthur Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday to help support the club and the scholarship awards.

Tickets are $35. For those who are unable to attend, but would like to help with the program, they can mail a check to Jennifer Bowman, 14 Simpson Ave., Ocean City, N.J., 08226 or call (609) 425-1474 and she could pick up the donation.
