The Ocean City girls soccer team defeated visiting Moorestown, 1-0, on Friday afternoon to advance to the Group 3 South semifinals.

Scoring the lone goal on the afternoon was none other than senior All-American Summer Reimet off an assist from freshman Coryn McDonnell.

Reimet has rewritten the history books this year, notching her 61st goal of the season, leading all scorers in the state.

Moorestown came in with a solid game plan that had two defensive players shadow Reimet wherever she moved on the field.

The fact that Reimet was still able to score was impressive, Ocean City Head Coach Lisa Cuneo said.

“It just goes to show you how dominant of a player Summer really is,” Cuneo said. “To still be able to get one in on a double team mark is incredible.”

It took the Red Raiders well into the second half to get on the scoreboard, but due to stellar defensive efforts and a tough and gritty midfield, the lone goal was all they needed.

“Knowing they (Moorestown) are such a well-coached team, we knew they definitely had a game plan to shut down Summer and counter on us,” Cuneo said post game. “Moorestown always brings their ‘A’ game in the post season year after year. Our defense really played well enough today to give us a chance to win.”

As the Raiders are set to face familiar foe Mainland for the fourth time this season in Tuesday’s semifinal round, not much about their preparation and game plan will change.

“Mainland is a great rival opponent, so we will prepare like we do with anyone and just be ready to play our game,” Cuneo said. “We will make adjustments if the game dictates, but as of right now, we just have to make sure the girls have a great practice on Monday and are excited to still be playing.”

The Raiders take on Mainland on Tuesday afternoon at Carey Stadium in the Group 3 South semifinal game.
