At 2356 hours on 9/15/19, the Ocean City Fire Department was dispatched to 800 Ocean Avenue, the Hobby Horse Ice Cream Shop, for a report of smoke coming from the building.
Upon arrival, Deputy Chief 3 reported smoke showing from the rear of the roof. Upon further investigation, the single-story shop had fire coming from the C and D sides of the roof area of the structure. Responding to the scene were Engine One, Truck One, Engine Two and Engine Three. The fire was quickly extinguished by Engine and Truck One personnel.
Crews remained on scene until the building was secured and the OCFD fire investigative team completed their initial investigation. There were no injuries. As per protocol for a working structure fire, neighboring fire companies Marmora and Margate were alerted. They responded to Ocean City, but their services were not needed.
