Ocean City Junior Raiders Football Teams Sweep Brigantine

The Ocean City Junior Raiders played played against Brigantine this past Saturday at Carey Stadium in Ocean City. The Junior Raiders compiled wins at the Varsity, Junior Varsity and Pee Wee levels!

Here is a recap of the games….

Varsity – Ocean City 27 Brigantine 0

The Junior Raiders Varsity squad (7th and 8th graders) improved their record to 2-1 over the weekend with a convincing 27-0 over the Brigantine Rams. The Junior Raiders took the opening possession of the game and marched down the field capped off by a touchdown pass by Jake Schneider to Brady Rauner. Rauner added the extra point. Shortly before halftime, Zion Wilson intercepted a pass which eventually led to a short touchdown run by Schneider. Rauner added the extra point to give the Raiders a 14-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Schneider had a long touchdown run capped off by an extra point by Kareem Lovest. On the Rams’ ensuing possession, Sean Mazzitelli caused a fumble which was picked up and returned for a touchdown by Will Drain. The defense held tight for the rest of the game to cap off the Junior Raiders second straight shutout.

Junior Varsity – Ocean City 27 Brigantine 12

The Ocean City Jr Raiders JV won a hard-fought division game against a big Brigantine Rams team on Saturday. The Jr Raiders were lead on to the field by Honorary Captain Dylan Dwyer. Dwyer is out for the season after suffering a broken leg against Northfield. Ocean City opened the game with a forty yard kickoff return deep in to Rams territory by David Legette, followed by a touchdown by Drew Young. The Raiders recovered the ensuing kickoff and scored again on a short burst by Derek Berardis. The remainder of the first half was a defensive battle, and OC went in to the half leading 13 – 0.
Brigantine opened the second half with a long TD drive cutting the lead to 13 – 6. Ocean City answered immediately with a long run by Ayden Schweitzer, and another tough run by Drew Young in to the end zone.
Brigantine threatened to answer the scoring on their next drive but was stopped on 4th and short inside the OC 20 by a tough OC defense led by Noe Olmeda, Brock Cook and Nate Wagner.
Ocean City scored a pair of touchdowns early in the 4th quarter to open up the game. Brigantine scored late in the game for a final score of 27 – 12.

Pee Wee – Ocean City 34 Brigantine 7

Ocean city Jr. Raiders peewee team consisting of second through fourth graders secured their first win Saturday afternoon at home against the Brigantine Rams 34-7. It was a total team effort with every player having an impact play at some point during the game. Joey Berardis scored four Touchdowns and Evan Taylor added the fifth. Defensively Ayden Majors and Colin Thompson had standout performances constantly disrupting everything the Rams tried to do offensively.

This Sunday the Junior Raiders play against Hammonton with games starting at 11:30am. Come out and support the athletes!!!
