The Ocean City Board of Education on Wednesday unanimously approved the hiring of Wendy Weber-O’Neal as high school assistant principal.

Weber-O’Neal will have a contract that will be effective August 17, 2015 through June 30, 2016, at a salary of $100,000 annually (pro-rated).

Weber-O’Neal holds a doctoral degree and has experience as an athletic director at Bordentown Regional High School in Burlington and most recently at the private Kent Place School in Summit.

Amid an ongoing investigation, the board accepted the retirement (effective July 1) of Christine Lentz as assistant principal and athletic director at a special meeting on July 9.

Lentz was arrested Aug. 4 and charged with official misconduct and computer criminal activity in an alleged attempt to gain a benefit in contract negotiations by illegally accessing Superintendent Kathleen Taylor’s email.

Lentz, 53, had an annual salary of $123,197 after a 30-year-career in the district.

On July 22, the board approved Jack Pfizenmayer as interim athletic director effective August 1 at $400 per day for 3 to 5 days per week on an as-needed basis.

Weber-O’Neal replaces William Boyle, who had been serving as high school assistant principal on a per diem basis.

At Wednesday’s meeting, the board approved Boyle as an interim curriculum director at $350 per day for 3 to 5 days per week. He fills the spot of Mikenzie Helphenstine, who requested a voluntary reassignment and will return as a teacher in the fall.
