On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, Ocean City hosted the annual OCBP Women’s Invitational Races.  On a cool but pleasant and sunny evening on the 34th Street beach, 16 beach patrols from Harvey Cedars to Cape May competed in five race events.  Races included combinations of rowing, swimming, paddle board and surf dash techniques.  The top five finishers in each event scored points for their team to determine the overall team winners.

16 local beach patrols met at the 34th street beach in Ocean City Wednesday evening for the annual OCBP Women’s Invitational. The Ocean City Women came off a strong first place finish in Longport two week ago to host their own event.

Ocean City continued a tradition of hosting spectator friendly adaptations to the classic events held throughout South Jersey. Substituting the traditional up-and-back variety, the swim and paddleboard races instead were run on an M shaped course. Similarly, the two rowing events of the evening implemented a shorter distance as well as qualifying heats for placement in a final. This resulted in more races, all of which were in full display for the spectators on the beach.

Maggie Wallace dominated in the swim snatching her second first place finish of the season and OCBP’s lone gold finish. Lexi Santer scored points in all three events she competed in the evening taking 2nd in the Paddleboard, 4th in the Row Swim, and 5th in the Surdash. Santer was partnered with Sam Brady in the Row Swim, and teamed with Sam Brady, Ryann Styer, and Carly Wray in the Surfdash.

Margate City narrowly edged out Ocean City scoring 14 point to OC’s 13 after a tremendous effort from the Women Of OCBP.
