The annual NJ Run For The Fallen http://www.njrunforthefallen.org/ will take place in Cape May County on Thursday, September 21, 2017. Ocean City’s American Legion, Morvay-Miley Post 524, has been an integral part of this event since its inception nine years ago.

The New Jersey Run for the Fallen is an organization of military runners and support crew whose mission is to run one mile for every New Jersey service member killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and New Dawn. Each mile of sweat and pain and each flag saluted pay homage to one service member’s life and their family.

Each mile is dedicated to a fallen NJ Hero and their Gold Star Family, and the run team will stop at each Hero Marker (each mile) to present a flag and personalized biographical card to waiting family members, friends and comrades with the goal of creating a 190+ mile memorial trail through New Jersey.

The opening ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Sunset Beach, Cape May Point at 5:30PM.

On Thursday, September 21st, the first day of the Run, the runners will depart from Cape May and stop to visit 43 Hero Marker locations honoring the men and women who gave their lives for our Country. There are 11 Markers in Ocean City. The runners will arrive at the Ocean City Hero Markers at the times listed below.

Ocean City residents and visitors are encouraged to consider gathering at a marker to pay their respects and honor the sacrifices made by these fallen American heroes.

“THEY SHALL GROW NOT OLD, AS WE THAT ARE LEFT GROW OLD; AGE SHALL NOT WEARY THEM, NOR THE YEARS CONDEMN. AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM.”
