Obituary: Henry S. Knight, 82, Former Mayor of Ocean City

Former Mayor Bud Knight participated in the annual Unlocking of the Ocean ceremony on Memorial Day Weekend in recent years.

Henry S. Knight, 82, former mayor of Ocean City, died on March 7 in Naples, Florida.

Mr. Knight was involved in municipal government for over 40 years, serving on various Boards, as a member of City Council and for 14 years as mayor. He also owned and operated Knight’s Pharmacy for 40 years. An active member of St. Augustine Church, he was chairman of the first Parish Council and also served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. His love for all kinds of sports, especially horse racing, was well known. And though he always considered Ocean City his home, he loved spending the winter months in Florida.

Mr. Knight is survived by his wife, Marie, sons Todd (Therese) and Jay and seven grandchildren, Justin, Julie, Sara, John, Emily, Nicholas, and Katie. Also surviving are two sisters, Joan Burnette, Emma Jane Decker, and a brother, Steven Knight. He was predeceased by his wife Joan, daughter Beth Ann, and sons Jeffry and Mark.

Visitation will be Friday, March 13, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, at St. Augustine Church, 13th and Wesley Avenue, Ocean City. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ.
