The Public Safety Building dates to the late 1800s and once served as a school.

The Ocean City Police Department has charged a 17-year-old male from Atlantic City with the theft of two motor vehicles, both recovered by police, and over 65 burglaries of motor vehicles and the theft of items from those same motor vehicles, according to a press release.

“The Ocean City Police Department is grateful for the assistance of the Ventnor City Police Department, the Brigantine Police Department and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department,” the release states.

A majority of the incidents occurred this past week. However, some of the incidents date back to July of 2019.

The two stolen vehicles have been recovered.

The juvenile was taken to the youth detention center at Harborfields in Atlantic County and is awaiting court review for disposition, trial or other court action.

The Ocean City Police Department’s Detective Bureau is in the process of notifying all victims. The case is ongoing.

Anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is asked to contact Lt. Steve Sullivan of the Ocean City Police Department at ssullivan@ocnj.us or (609) 399-9111.

The police department would like to emphasize the importance of locking vehicle doors and not leaving vehicle keys inside unlocked vehicles.
