The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory and Wind Chill Advisory in effect for Ocean City on Wednesday and Thursday.
Southwest winds gusting as high as 50 mph are expected through 10 p.m. Wednesday. The Wind Chill Advisory is for 7 p.m. Wednesday through 10 a.m. Thursday.
The forecast calls for wind chill values as low as 12 degrees below zero. Thursday’s high temperature in Ocean City is not expected to rise above the teens.
Extreme cold is expected to continue into Friday and Friday night. There’s a great risk of frozen pipes. Thermostat settings in unoccupied homes should be above 65 degrees.
Some other advice for protecting against frozen pipes includes:
• Let heat reach pipes: Open cabinet doors or find other ways to vent heat toward pipes, particularly the ones that run along exterior walls.
• Leave water running: For pipes that run along exterior walls leave water running. Even a stream the width of a pencil point can help prevent pipes from freezing solid.
• Seal crawlspaces: Close access doors tight to the area underneath homes. Temporarily insulate flood vents to keep air and wind from entering.
Please check on neighbors and neighboring properties during the cold weather this weekend. And please, for their own safety and well-being, remember to bring pets inside.
