Dear Friends,
I want to follow up on a notification that went out earlier today and let you know that our police have been working with other law enforcement agencies to monitor an event that is being promoted on social media as a weekend-long beach party in Ocean City, N.J.
At this point, nobody knows how many people, if any, might be drawn to the city. The anonymous organizers have made no contact with any local official and released few details on the event. But everybody should know we are fully prepared to make sure this event does not disrupt anybody on the beach, boardwalk or any other part of town. You’ll probably notice a lot of officers on patrol and a lot of police cars on the street. There is no reason to be alarmed. This is just a precaution, but they will be ready to enforce all of our local ordinances. I certainly hope the increased patrols will not be necessary.
Final paving on 33rd Street began today as part of the neighborhood drainage project in the Fourth Ward. We have been working closely with the contractor on plans to get this work done as quickly as possible. Residents can expect paving to continue on the numbered streets before moving on to the alleys. Work will continue uninterrupted until the job is complete.
In the north end drainage project, crews are working on the 500 block of West Avenue. That block is still open to two-way traffic. But lane closings will be in effect once the school year at Ocean City Primary School is over. Work will continue in the area around the building on Fifth Street, Sixth Street and West Avenue while school is out of session. The summer work also will help keep this major project on schedule. As always, I thank you for your patience and understanding.
I want to remind you that the twice-weekly schedule for trash and recycling pickup begins on Monday (June 11). That schedule does not change for the weeks of Independence Day and Labor Day. Regular pickup continues on those holidays. See more information here.
Finally, I want to let you know that Ocean City has been named America’s Happiest Seaside Town by popular vote among the readers of Coastal Living magazine. Much of this weekly letter is dedicated to the not-always-happy updates on the projects that protect our quality of life here in Ocean City. But the honor is a reminder that our hard work pays off.
