Dear Friends,

A federal agency is in the process of reviewing the environmental impact and operations plans for a major wind energy project proposed to be constructed 15 miles off the shores of Ocean City and southern New Jersey.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is in the middle a 30-day public comment period that will extend through April 29 and will determine the scope of what will be reviewed during a lengthy application process.

The BOEM will hold three virtual meetings in the next week:

  • 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 13
  • 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 15
  • 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 20

Whether you support or oppose this project, or just have questions, this is the first opportunity to be heard directly by the people who will decide its fate.

Registration is not required to view a meeting or to comment, but the meeting facilitator will call on registered speakers first. Registration may be completed here: www.boem.gov/ocean-windYou also can call 703-787-1346 to register. Information on how to join the virtual meeting via Zoom will be available here: www.boem.gov/Ocean-Wind-Scoping-Virtual-Meetings.

Each commenter will be limited to three minutes, so please plan any remarks accordingly. If you have any trouble accessing the meeting or finding other ways to comment, please reach out to Justin Juliano in our Community Services Department at 609-399-6111, ext. 9336 or jjuliano@ocnj.us. Though he’s not a representative of the BOEM, he will be prepared to help guide citizens through the process of commenting.

More information on the proposed project and how to submit written comments is available here: www.ocnj.us/news/post/11817/.

Warm regards,
Mayor Jay A. Gillian
