Dear Friends,

As we move further into the fall season, I want to update you on a number of projects in the works.

Sound engineers will be performing acoustic testing at the pickleball courts at 18th Street on Oct. 21. This information will serve as a baseline as we consider various ways to address noise issues raised by neighbors of the courts. The city remains committed to both addressing noise, safety and traffic concerns and to expanding pickleball facilities in town.

A request for proposals for continued flood mitigation work in Merion Park will go out next week. We will be seeking bids from engineers to give us design specifications for a major neighborhood drainage project. We are accepting bids for the construction of another neighborhood drainage initiative: the first phase of a pumping station project between Ninth Street and 18th Street.

We are also seeking bids for road and drainage work along Asbury Avenue from 36th Street to 39th Street and for 2021-22 back bay maintenance dredging at lagoons and channels throughout the city.

The city team has met with Baker Engineering and utility companies to coordinate work on West 17th Street. The project will include upgrades to water, wastewater and gas lines, as well as a pumping station to help drain flood waters.

We are planning a neighborhood meeting for some time in November to give updates on this important project. I will provide further detail as we complete our plans for the meeting.

Road and drainage work along West Avenue from 26th Street to 34th Street is making good progress. The renovation and expansion of rest rooms at City Hall is now complete

The New Jersey American Water Company will be working on 32nd Street next week to replace a sewer main, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation will be at work making improvements on the shared use path along the Ninth Street causeway.

Design work has begun to build a bulkhead at the end of the unpaved Clubhouse Drive at the end of Clubhouse Lagoon.

I hope you all have a great weekend and get a chance to participate in the HERO Walk on Sunday and check out the Porsche Show on the Boardwalk on Saturday.

We’re all looking forward to a new event next weekend: the first Dog Day and Howl-O-Ween Parade on Oct. 23 on the Boardwalk. It should be a great time for both dogs and people. More information on how to participate is available here.

Warm regards,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
