Dear Friends,

Our full-time and seasonal police staffing is at its highest level ever, and there are more on the way. With new officers completing police academy, we expect to add 21 to our seasonal force. These men and women face a monumental task and are doing a great job. It looks like another beautiful weekend is on the way, so please help them out in any way you can.

The Ocean City Police Department and Ocean City Office of Emergency Management will be testing our emergency siren system on Tuesday, June 7. There are seven outdoor locations throughout town with sirens and speakers. Anybody who hears alarms or announcements on Tuesday should know that this is a test being conducted by the OCPD and OEM.

Our twice-weekly schedule for trash and recycling pickup will begin on Monday, June 13 this year. Next week will be the last one for the off-season schedule. See more detail.

The weekend forecast looks good, and the Ocean City Flower Show returns to the Music Pier through Sunday. The Cop Chase 5-kilometer run and the Skato With Kato skateboarding event are also scheduled for the weekend. See more detail on these events.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol will add six new guarded beaches starting Saturday. See list of guarded beaches as of June 4. Our new summer jitney service launched last week, and the early feedback seems good. See details on how to ride.

I want to encourage you all to vote for Ocean City in New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium’s 2022 “Favorite Beaches” poll. We have won the award for eight years in a row, so let’s keep the streak alive. Click here to vote.

Warm regards,

Mayor Jay A. Gillian
