The annual Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 14, 2014.

The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s weekly update to citizens posted on Friday, August 29.

Dear Friends,

It’s hard to believe that Labor Day Weekend is here.  We certainly enjoyed beautiful weather and I hope the summer in Ocean City made wonderful memories for you and your family.

While Labor Day marks the end of the summer season for most shore towns, the city team is preparing for our “Second Season,” and what many find to be the very best time of year to experience “America’s Greatest Family Resort.”

Our residents and visitors alike enjoy the many free and family-friendly special events that occur almost every weekend through our First Night celebration on New Year’s Eve. September alone will offer Street Rods, the largest Corvette Show in the region, the Airport Festival, the Boardwalk Aerobatic Airshow, the Ocean City Half Marathon and 5K Run and much more.

Many people also find the “Second Season” to be the perfect time to enjoy a concert at the historic Ocean City Music Pier and other local venues.  Over the next few weeks the Ocean City Theatre Company and the Ocean City Pops will present the Broadway show Swing, and the always popular Van-Dells will perform a music, comedy and variety show.  Tickets are available for both through the City website: www.ocnj.us.

Please remember that following Labor Day several important capital projects will resume work.  In particular, road paving projects on Bay Avenue and on 11th Street will see activity following the holiday weekend.  As with all road projects, we ask for your patience and safe driving during the construction.

Enjoy the holiday weekend and I look forward to seeing you this fall.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
