Visitors watch as an Army Corps of Engineers contractor pumps sand onto the beach at North Street on Nov. 15. Rough seas stalled the project for a few days, but work should pick up again on Saturday, Nov. 21.

The following is Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian’s weekly update to citizens posted on Friday, Nov. 20.

Dear Friends,

The north end beach replenishment has been on hold due to rough seas since Wednesday, but should resume operations on Saturday. We are working with the Army Corps of Engineers to determine additional quantities of sand to repair the dunes damaged in the early October storm.

I welcome everyone to attend the downtown’s “Earlier than the Bird” shopping event, which runs from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 21. This is a great opportunity to get a jump start on your holiday shopping the weekend before Thanksgiving. Only in Ocean City can you shop in your pajamas and take advantage of all the early bird shopping specials.

Tickets are now available for the annual Pops Christmas Show. This year’s show will be Sunday, December 6 at 3:00 PM, at the Hughes Performing Arts Center, located at 6th & Atlantic Avenue. Tickets are only $20. The Pops are joined by Tenor Cody Austin and Soprano Chloe Moore in this orchestral celebration of the glorious sounds of Christmas. Please join us for this annual holiday tradition. Tickets are available at City Hall or on the City website.

Remember, Fitness Week runs through this weekend and includes holiday cooking demonstrations on Sunday. The cooking demonstrations are free and open to the public. Information on the remainder of Fitness Week can be found at www.ocnj.us under recreation programs.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
