Mario’s Pizzeria & Restaurant at 1510 Bay Avenue in Ocean City is back open after a year and half of repairs from Superstorm Sandy.

Mario’s Pizzeria & Restaurant on Bay Avenue near 15th Street in Ocean City reopened Thursday (March 27).

Superstorm Sandy flooded the popular neighborhood restaurant on Oct. 29, 2012, and the owners have been dealing with insurance claims, repairs and renovations for a year and a half.

“Sandy — I don’t like the name any more,” co-owner Guiseppe Cannuscio said on Thursday morning after City of Ocean City and Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce leaders helped cut a ceremonial to mark the long-awaited  reopening. “We made it. We didn’t give up.”

Bay Avenue in front of the restaurant is detoured for a county road construction project, but local traffic to the restaurant is permitted.
