U.S. Congressman Frank A. LoBiondo (NJ-02) was honored by the Humane Society of the United States for his continued support of legislation to protect animals from suffering and abuse throughout 2017. LoBiondo again received the “Legislative Leader Award” for his leadership and scored a 91 on their annual scorecard.

“I have long admired the outstanding work done by the Humane Society of the United States and its local chapters across South Jersey and the country. Their tireless efforts and advocacy on behalf of animals has served as a model for me and, as a true lover of animals and proud owner of two Weimaraners, I am honored to receive this award,” said LoBiondo. “We have formed a positive partnership on a number of animal welfare bills throughout my time in Congress and I look forward to continuing to be an advocate for animals upon my retirement from Congress.”

The Humane Society of the United States is the nation’s largest animal protection organization, rated the most effective by its peers. Since 1954, The HSUS has been fighting for the protection of all animals through advocacy and educational programs. They rescue and care for tens of thousands of animals each year, but its primary mission is to prevent cruelty before it occurs. More information available at: humanesociety.org.

Fellow New Jersey Representative Chris Smith (NJ-04) was honored with the “Humane Legislator of the Year.” In total, 10 New Jersey Representatives as well as Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker received awards for their work in 2017. “The animal protection community is grateful to all of these Members of Congress who are helping to forge a path to a more humane future through their demonstrated leadership,” wrote Michael Markarian, President of the Humane Society Legislative Fund.

The “Legislative Leader Award” was presented to Members of Congress at a Capitol Hill ceremony this week. A photo of the award is available on Instagram.
