It was a perfect capper to a perfect holiday: Ocean City’s traditional fireworks display drew tens of thousands of spectators.
They weren’t disappointed, the show began shortly after 9 p.m. and lasted just over 15 action-packed minutes. The crowd’s “oohs and ahhs” were audible in between the booms and bangs of the fireworks, shot from a barge near 7th Street beach.
Folks, many wearing patriotic red white and blue outfits, began staking out spots on the beach as early as 7 p.m., bringing blankets and picnic baskets. Many people also opted to view from the Boardwalk.
Approximately two dozen boats were anchored between the barge and third street. A contingent of surfers watched from the water, and still others packed balconies of homes and condo buildings.
The fireworks were synched up with patriotic music for the display, which took place under near-perfect weather conditions.
During the few brief lulls in the show, spectators could see the fireworks going off from the south in Sea Isle City and to the north in Atlantic City. But nowhere did the spirit of the holiday shine brighter than right here in America’s Greatest Family Resort.
