City Council on Thursday approved a new collective bargaining agreement with Communication Workers of America AFL-CIO, Local No. 1078.

The union represents most white-collar and blue-collar Ocean City municipal employees outside of the police and fire departments.

The four-year contract is effective from Jan. 1, 2015 through Dec. 31, 2018.

It calls for the following annual salary increases:

  • 2015: 1.5 percent or 25 cents per hour for hourly employees
  • 2016: 1.25 percent or 25 cents per hour for hourly employees
  • 2017: 1.25 percent or 25 cents per hour for hourly employees
  • 2018: 1.25 percent or 25 cents per hour for hourly employees

The new contract also changes employee health benefits to a plan that includes increased co-pays and emergency room visit deductibles.

The contract mirrors the terms of a recently approved contract with the Ocean City Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local No. 61.

Mike Dattilo, assistant to Mayor Jay Gillian, thanked union representatives for getting the job done very easily.
