Tropical Storm Bertha was hundreds of miles away from a calm and sunny beach in Ocean City on Wednesday morning, but she was sending lines of glassy chest- to head-high waves to the top surfing spots on the island.

Rated a hurricane on Monday (with winds of 75 mph), Bertha was fading fast (winds of 50 mph) as she moved past the New England coast on Wednesday morning.

The surf was still building slightly through the mid-morning hours, but it is expected to diminish quickly as the storm continues to move away.

The breaks in Ocean City were already crowded with surfers as the sun rose on Wednesday morning.

Low tide was at 9:38 a.m. and high tide at 4:12 p.m.

Ocean City saw big surf as Hurricane Arthur passed on a rainy July 4, but the waves have been generally small since then.
