DATE: Tuesday, May 12

PROGRESS: Work on the second phase of the south end beach replenishment project is now complete at St. David’s Place (between 47th and 48th streets). Operations have shifted to a feeder pipeline at 55th Street, and by dusk on Tuesday, an accumulation of new sand surrounded the pipeline. From there, sand-pumping will progress northward to where the project left off at St. David’s. The second phase had originally been announced as 42nd Street to 49th Street. Crews on Tuesday were removing sections of pipeline from the beach between 42nd Street and 47th Street.

WHAT’S NEXT: The project will proceed from 55th Street to St. David’s Place (mid-May to mid-June), then from 55th to 59th (mid-June to mid-July). These southern blocks will require more work to rebuild and repair dunes.
