American Legion Salutes Ocean City Merchants, Citizens for Their Support

Ocean City’s Morvay-Miley American Legion Post 524 has been arranging free weeklong vacations for military personnel and their families in "America’s Greatest Family Resort" since 2013. The Rest and Relaxation Program pays tribute to service men and women for sacrifices made during their time in the military. Now, Post 524 is thanking local businesses and residents for their contributions to the program.

O.C. Pops Musicians to Perform in Benefit For Shelter Animals Oct....

A benefit by the Ocean City Pops will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at the Ocean City Yacht Club. Proceeds will go to the Friends of the Ocean City Pops’ Ruggeri Society. Pet products such as food and cleaning supplies collected during the event will also benefit the Humane Society of Ocean City.

Sturdy Savings Hosts Mortgage Fair Oct. 13

Sturdy Savings Bank will host a Mortgage Fair on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 10 a.m. to noon at its Marmora and Rio Grande branch locations. Sturdy representatives encourage everyone who has been thinking about home ownership, but perhaps thought they might not qualify or be able to afford it, to attend.

Xanadu Comes to Music Pier This Weekend

The Ocean City Theatre Company’s 2018 professional Broadway Series continues this weekend with the musical adventure Xanadu. The hilarious show will run at the Ocean City Music Pier on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Described as “Heaven on Wheels” by The New York Times, Xanadu is based on the Universal Pictures’ cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly.

Ocean City Field Hockey Battles to Tie Against Haddonfield

The Ocean City High School field hockey team battled to a 1-1 tie with Haddonfield High School Friday evening in an aggressive back-and-forth overtime game. Jaclyn Charbonneau was the lone scorer for Ocean City, with her goal coming late in the first half. On Saturday, the Red Raiders return to action with a 1 p.m. home game at Carey Stadium against Oak Knoll, the 2017 Tournament of Champions winner.

North End Neighborhood Drainage Project Update

North End Neighborhood Drainage Project update for the week of Oct. 8-12: Feriozzi Concrete will continue work on Sixth Street between West Avenue and Bay Avenue, restoring curb gutter and sidewalks. They will begin work on Haven Avenue between Sixth Street and Seventh Street. Pipe crews will finish installing the main on Seventh Street, working from Bay Avenue to West Avenue. Once finished, they will begin work on Pleasure Avenue.

Ocean City Hockey Shuts Out Atlantic City

Despite a stagnant start, the Ocean City field hockey team (9-0 conference, 10-1 overall) soared by Atlantic City (2-5-1 conference, 3-6-1 overall) with a final score of 5-0. Jaclyn Charbonneau had one goal and two assists, while Molly Reardon and Reese Bloomstead each contributed a goal and an assist. Rounding out the scoring for Ocean City was Chloe Prettyman and Nya Gilchrist, each with one goal.

Ocean City School District Awarded State Funding to Offer Full-Day Preschool

The Ocean City School District has been awarded Preschool Education Expansion Aid (PEEA) funding from New Jersey’s Department of Education, Division of Early Childhood Education, for the 2018-19 school year. With the funding, the district will begin offering full-day, general education preschool at Ocean City Primary School beginning Jan. 2, 2019. The state funding allows the district to provide the preschool program free of charge for in-district families, with spots initially available for 21 children.
