County Clerk to Discuss Election at Oct. 19 Forum in Ocean...

Cape May County Clerk Rita Marie Fulginiti will be the featured speaker during a public forum focusing on the Nov. 6 election. Sponsored by the Ocean City AARP Chapter 1062, the forum will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, in Room 111 at the Ocean City Free Public Library. The public is invited to attend.

O.C. Happenings: HERO Walk and Porsche Show This Weekend

The Ocean City Boardwalk will be the setting for two major events this weekend – one a local tradition and the other a first-time show in town. The John R. Elliott HERO Walk and 5K Run on the Boardwalk, now in its eighth year, will take place on Sunday, Oct. 21. Vintage (1948-1965) 356 series Porsche owners will roll into town Friday, Oct. 19, and Saturday, Oct. 20, for their “East Coast Holiday.” This is the first time Ocean City will host the event.

UMC at The Shores in Ocean City Appoints Director of Memory...

United Methodist Communities (UMC) at The Shores, a senior living community located on Bay Avenue in Ocean City, appointed Dawn Zindel to the position of director of Tapestries Memory Care Residence. In this role, she will assume Tapestries’ oversight, staff management and services, which focus on residents with neurocognitive disorders, related dementias or who experience difficulty with thinking, according to a UMC press release.

O.C. Field Hockey Wins Back-to-Back Games

The Ocean City High School field hockey team stifled conference opponent Bridgeton Friday afternoon 10-0 and turned around Saturday afternoon to defeat non-conference foe Lenape 3-1. The wins improved Ocean City’s record to 13-2-1. Friday’s game was family day, which allowed Ocean City the opportunity to say thank you to all of the parents and fans who support the team all season long.

Mayor’s Message: Oct. 12

In his weekly message to the public, Mayor Jay Gillian discusses Ocean City's efforts to win bigger discounts for flood insurance policy holders. City Council on Thursday night approved four planning documents related to flood mitigation and outreach efforts. These are requirements for the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System (CRS), the mayor noted. Ocean City will be reviewed by the CRS program in December and anticipates increasing its rating to secure an additional 5 or 10 percent discount for almost all local flood insurance policy holders, he said.

Ocean City Trio Arrested on Drugs and Weapons Offenses

On Oct. 10 at 5:05 a.m. the Ocean City Police Department and Cape May County Regional SWAT Team served a search warrant on an apartment located inside a condominium complex at 921 Wesley Ave., resulting in the arrest of three residents for alleged drugs and weapons offenses. The search warrant was a result of a month-long investigation into the sale of controlled dangerous substances from that location, according to a police press release. Authorities arrested Russell McGraw, Mary Hyson and Tomas Pratts, all of Ocean City.

Special Weather Statement: Flash Flood Watch

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect for Ocean City from 2 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 11) through 5 a.m. Friday (Oct. 12). A Wind Advisory also will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Friday.

The Garden State Council of the Boy Scouts of America announced they will be recognizing Cape May County Freeholder E. Marie Hayes as one of the “Outstanding Women in South Jersey” at their 2018 Women of Achievement Awards Reception. The Achievement Awards Reception will be held at Auletto Caterers in Almonesson, New Jersey on October 16, 2018. Ocean City Happenings: Chili Chowder Fest, Fire Department Open House

Ocean City restaurateurs will be cooking up their favorite recipes for the third annual Chili Chowder Fest 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Ocean City Music Pier. The feast features a wide variety of chilis and chowders and is set up under the roof of the Music Pier loggia with great ocean views. A DJ and kids’ activities will add to the fun. The Ocean City Fire Department and IAFF Local 4032 will hold their annual Open House at the station at 550 Asbury Avenue from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12. The event had originally been scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 11, but it was moved due to the weather forecast.
