Offshore Wind Farm Developer to Hold Public Meeting in Ocean City...

Representatives from offshore wind farm developer Orsted will host an informational community meeting to introduce their Ocean Wind project to local residents on Tuesday, Aug. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center in Ocean City. Attendees will hear an Ocean Wind project overview, then visit and interact with Orsted employees and consultants who will be on hand to discuss aspects of the company’s plans to build an 1,100-megawatt offshore wind farm that will power approximately more than half a million New Jersey homes. Ocean Wind will be located 15 miles off the coast of Atlantic City. Construction is expected to commence in the early 2020s, with the wind farm operational in 2024.

Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Fox & Roach Realtors congratulates the following Ocean City sales associates and offices on being recognized as a Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices network Top 100 Spotlight Winner for the second quarter of 2019. Ocean City 34th Street: The Cheryl Huber Team ranked 47 for gross commission income (GCI) and 100 for units. Ocean City Asbury Avenue: Patrick Halliday ranked 88 for GCI. The Ocean City Ninth Street office was ranked first place, as one of the top three offices in the region, with a minimum of 41 sales professionals and a maximum of 75 sales professionals, in the United States Northeast for total gross commission income (GCI).

NIV Pageant Committee Donates to American Legion Post 524

Ocean City’s Night in Venice Pageant Committee paid tribute to the American Legion’s century of helping veterans and their families by presenting a $7,000 donation to local Post 524 during a special luncheon celebration. The NIV Pageant Committee, formed in 1988, annually chooses three or four local charities to receive funds raised by the 12 Miss Night In Venice contestants as part of their pageant campaigns.

Natalie Argento Crowned Junior Miss O.C.

Natalie Argento, a rising sophomore at Ocean City High School, was crowned the 2020 Junior Miss Ocean City Saturday night in front of a packed house at the Ocean City Music Pier. The 15-year-old wowed the judges with her poise, interview skills and musical theater talent.

OCBP Takes Third in Final Lifeguard Race of Season

The Ocean City Beach Patrol finished the 2019 summer racing series on Friday evening with a third place finish at the Goudy Memorial Rescue Races. Ventnor City Beach Patrol won the team title. Ocean City tied for second place with Atlantic City, but due to a higher finish in the doubles race, Atlantic City took second overall, with Ocean City third. The 53rd John T. Goudy Memorial Rescue Races are hosted by Ventnor Beach Patrol at the end of every summer and are the last team event in the competitive racing season for South Jersey. The Goudy races consist of four events in swimming and rowing.

Mayor’s Message: Aug. 16

Mayor Jay Gillian reported that Ocean City's bird abatement program targeting pesky gulls appears to be working. A city contractor, East Coast Falcons, is using falcons, hawks and an owl to chase away the swarms of aggressive gulls. "People say they are grateful to be able to stroll the boardwalk and beach across the entire island without fear of gulls swooping down to steal food," the mayor said Friday in his weekly message posted on the city's website.

O.C. School District Gears up for New Year

The Ocean City School District's administration is excited about the 2019-2020 school year. School administrators started off getting ready for the year with a recent visit from Dr. Tracey Severns. Dr. Severns is an experienced presenter who has provided professional development on the Common Core State Standards, PARCC, instructional leadership, data analysis, special education and school improvement on the state and national levels.

Miss Crustacean Beauty Pageant, Crab Race Winners Announced

The city announced the winners of the madcap Miss Crustacean hermit crab beauty pageant. If that's not exciting enough for you, winners were also announced for the equally wacky hermit crab races that followed the pageant Wednesday. The list of winners for both events follows.

Hermit Crabs Ignore Rain, Have Their Moment in Sun

You can’t keep a good crab down. Or for that matter, dozens of crabs. Ignoring on-and-off showers which took the event indoors, participants, their owners and more than 100 spectators made the annual Miss Crustacean Pageant a huge success yesterday at the Sports and Civic Center. As one of the showers subsided and a giant rainbow appeared over the 6th Street beach, the event made its move. One of the more wacky events cooked up by former OC public relations guru Mark Soifer, the “original beauty pageant for hermit crabs” according to the City’s website, proved worthy of its creator’s legacy...
