Marina Opens in Somers Point

Somers Point officially unveiled its new bayfront marina during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday morning. The marina currently features 20 transient boat slips as well as slips for tour boats and emergency vessels. Future amenities will include electric, water, and pump out facilities for transient boaters. The marina is open to the public, and is located at Higbee Avenue and the bay. Wickberg Marina Contracting, Inc. of Belford, NJ completed the dredging phase of the project, and Walters Marine Construction of Ocean View, NJ completed construction on the marina itself...

Todd J. Williams to Speak at O.C. Tabernacle

The president of Cairn University, Todd J. Williams, will be the featured speaker at the Ocean City Tabernacle at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. Prior to his appointment as president of Cairn University in 2008, Dr. Williams served as Senior Vice President and Provost for the University.

Country Music Concert Kicks Off Labor Day Weekend in Ocean City

Country music comes to the Ocean City Music Pier on Friday, Aug. 30 with a concert featuring the Swon Brothers and Josh Gracin. Two Former Miss Americas to Join O.C. Pops at Sept. 4...

Local fans who will miss the Miss America Pageant when it moves to Connecticut can still catch a great show featuring two former Miss America winners on Sept. 4 at the Ocean City Music Pier. The Ocean City Pops orchestra will celebrate one of the Jersey Shore’s most treasured traditions when Miss America 2002 Katie Harman Ebner and Miss America 1998 Kate Shindle perform as special guest vocalists.

Tony Campolo Speaks at O.C. Tabernacle Sunday

Tony Campolo, a professor emeritus of sociology at Eastern University and a former faculty member at the University of Pennsylvania, will be the featured speaker Sunday during the 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. services at the Ocean City Tabernacle. For 40 years, he led the Evangelical Association for the Promotion of Education, an organization he founded to create and support programs serving needy communities.

Mayor’s Message: August 23

City Council last night gave final approval to an ordinance that authorizes the city to negotiate to buy or to take by condemnation the former car dealership lot next to the Ocean City Community Center. This is only the beginning of a process that I hope will result in our acquisition of this land for public use. If we are able to purchase this land, I will hold a town hall meeting to discuss options for how best to use it. But the immediate goal is to protect the city block being developed with housing before it’s too late. We are not currently considering this location as a potential site for a new public safety building. It will be reserved for open space, recreation or some other public use. Council also approved a resolution to seek bids on bringing permanent electrical infrastructure to Roosevelt Boulevard at the 34th Street gateway to Ocean City...

Surfing Fundraiser to Benefit Cancer Foundation

The Dean Randazzo Cancer Foundation is going to award surfers prizes for helping people with cancer, both on and off the water. Prizes for the 19th annual Surf For A Cause Sept. 7 in Margate include divisional trophies for the surfing competition and top fundraisers will win for collecting online donations. Again this year, the cancer foundation will also partner with the Heart of Surfing Foundation to work with special needs children and teach them to surf at Surf for A Cause.
