Code Blue Weather Advisory

The Cape May County Office of Emergency Management advises that all municipalities in Cape May County will be under a “Code Blue” severe weather advisory from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Wednesday and 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Thursday. A Code Blue emergency is intended to protect homeless people living outside, on the streets, in parks or poorly insulated settings and who are at risk for cold related exposure and possible death. People seeking shelter in a warming center should contact their local municipality. Additional resources are available by calling 2-1-1.

OCIS Presents: “Lion King Jr.”

The Ocean City Intermediate School presents “Disney: The Lion King Jr., ” the animated hit movie musical. Show dates are Jan. 30 and Jan. 31 at 7 p.m. at Ocean City High School's Bill and Nancy Hughes Performing Arts Center.

Ocean City Falls to Mainland

The gym was standing room only. The energy was palpable. The game did not disappoint. The rivalry between Ocean City and Mainland came to a head Monday evening when the visiting Mustangs defeated the Red Raiders 62-58. Ocean City's Gannon Brady led all scorers with 22 points. The loss drops Ocean City to 7-7, while Mainland improves to 10-4 on the year.

Ocean City Wins Thriller Against Mainland

Ocean City scored a three-pointer to start the game Sunday evening and never looked back. The Red Raiders girls basketball team took down rival Mainland High School, 51-49, to improve to 10-5 on the season. With the loss, Mainland also stands at 10-5. Kylie Watson, a senior from Mainland, led all scorers with 22 points, while sophomore Marin Panico paced the Red Raiders with 18. In what was anticipated to be a hotly contested game, the storied rivalry of Ocean City and Mainland did not disappoint.

OCHS Adds Career Technical Education to Curriculum

Ocean City High School will be offering a Career Technical Education (CTE) program in the field of marketing/marketing management, according to a school release. In order to complete the Career Technical Education program, students must successfully complete the three-course requirement. This includes fashion marketing and merchandising, hospitality, tourism, and real estate services, and marketing and sports entertainment.

O.C. Library Has Museum Pass Program

Calling all museum lovers. The Ocean City Free Public Library is offering passes for museum trips. Eligible patrons may borrow museum passes from the library with a valid library card. A listing of museums in the library program follows.

Bay Avenue Construction Update

The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority is replacing and rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be done on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street. Starting Monday, Bay Avenue will be closed from 24th to 14th streets for construction. Special traffic plans are in effect for the Ocean City Intermediate School during construction.

Atlantic City Edges Ocean City in Thriller

The Ocean City boys basketball team came up just short against the visiting Vikings of Atlantic City in Cape Atlantic League action Friday night, losing 43-42, Ocean City’s Gannon Brady led all scorers with 26 points.

Mayor’s Message: Jan. 24

Mayor Jay Gillian announced Friday that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has wrapped up the beach replenishment project in the south end of Ocean City from 45th to 59th streets. Altogether, the storm-damaged beaches were restored with 515,000 cubic yards of fresh sand. Contractors will return later this winter to restore dune crossovers, install sand fencing and plant dune grass. The Army Corps of Engineers will be back in the spring to rebuild the beaches at the north end of town, the mayor said.

Special Weather Statement: Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City from 6 a.m. to noon Saturday. Predicted heavy rain could increase the effects of flooding, particularly if it coincides with high tide in the morning. Strong southeast winds could gust as high as 35 mph.
