Ocean City Basketball Benefit at DiOrio’s Feb. 15

Come out to support the Ocean City Basketball Booster on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Diorio's Circle Café in Somers Point. The booster scholarship benefit will feature wings, wine and camaraderie.

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced the swearing in of Chief of County Detectives Paul S. Skill as the president of the Cape May County Chiefs of Police Association. Ocean City Police Chief Jay Prettyman was sworn in as treasurer of the chiefs association.

O.C. Dominates Oakcrest in Boys Basketball

The Ocean City boys basketball team upended the visiting Oakcrest Falcons Monday night, 73-39. The win brings Ocean City’s record to 11-8, while Oakcrest drops to 5-14. Red Raider Gannon Brady led all scorers with 23 points, while teammate Tom Finnegan added 16, including four three-pointers.

OCHS Boys Swim Team Advances to S.J. Final

The Ocean City High School boys swim team defeated visiting Cherry Hill West, 102-68, in the semifinals of the South Jersey Public B group. The win advances the Red Raiders to the finals, where they will face conference foe Mainland for a neutral site meet at Gloucester County Institute of Technology in Deptford Township on Wednesday afternoon.

Cape May County Regular Republican Organization Chairman Marcus Karavan announced Monday that he has garnered the endorsement of every Cape May County Republican mayor as he seeks a second, four-year term as the leader of the Cape May County Regular Republican Organization.

Bay Avenue Construction Update

The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority is replacing and rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work is being done on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street. Details follow on construction work scheduled for the week of Feb. 10-17.

AARP Hosts Black History Month Speaker

On Friday, Feb. 21, AARP Chapter 1062 will host speaker Loretta Thompson Harris at the Ocean City Free Public Library, 1735 Simpson Ave., in honor of Black History Month. The free event will be held at 12:30 p.m. in the library's Room 111. Thompson Harris is a fourth generation Thompson to live in and around Ocean City. Her family is one of the earliest black families to make Ocean City their home.

Plastic Bag Recycling Now Available at Five Locations in Ocean City

Ocean City Intermediate School students, under the guidance and direction of the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority, are launching a new program to collect plastic bags and film packaging for recycling. Everybody is invited to drop off recyclable plastic at any one of five locations in Ocean City. Details follow on the locations.
