Ocean City Camp Puts Lacrosse Players “in the Game”

There’s a new camp offered in Ocean City for kids who want to learn how to play lacrosse, and from the looks of the first week of it, there are some stars in the making. Ocean City resident Laura Wheeler opened Jr. Raiders Lacrosse Camp this summer – this past Monday, actually. The camp for grades first through sixth runs through Thursday. Lacrosse clinics are already planned for the fall.

Ocean City Historic Commission OKs Condo Project

The Ocean City Historic Preservation Commission approved an upscale condominium project with a commercial component Tuesday night. It took revisions to get to the point that the commission would vote in favor of the project. But still, not everyone was pleased with the mixed-use building planned at 801 Wesley Ave.

Historic Commission to Hear Revised Condo Project

An upscale condominium project that, if approved, would be in Ocean City’s Historic District, will once again be a topic at the Historic Preservation Commission meeting on Tuesday night. The developer has revised the project in response to concerns raised by the commission, but is expected to face questions from homeowners in the Historic District.

Visitors Delight in Ocean City Beach Day

The Ocean City Boardwalk bustled with activity and the beaches were packed with visitors taking advantage of sun-splashed skies, balmy temps and cool ocean water. The Ocean City Beach Patrol is looking for some more lifeguards to help it maintain a solid staff through the end of the summer into the fall and also to bring in some new talent for 2023. Tryouts for new lifeguards will take place on Monday. The competitive test will include a 500-meter ocean swim, a 500-meter ocean paddleboard, a half-mile beach run, a 500-meter erg and a surf dash. All candidates also must complete an interview, according to city officials.

Food Truck Coming to Ocean City Airport

For those who miss their favorite breakfast place -- the Ocean City Municipal Airport Diner -- city officials say the plan is to renovate it and reopen better than before. But in the meantime, the airport will have a food truck from Arlene’s Restaurant, a well-known Ocean City breakfast and lunch place located on Asbury Avenue. The food truck will take the diner’s place temporarily.

Ocean City Hosts “Banner” Night in Venice

Night in Venice weekend in Ocean City not only rivaled the ones from prior years, but on Saturday, the 67th in its history, it set a record for the number of boats and homes decorated for the event. From day-trippers to vacationers to year-round residents, the town was packed with families just having a good time. There were close to 140 boats in the parade and 168 homes were decorated, officials said, making it the largest NIV in many years – if not the biggest.

Iconic Moorlyn Theatre on Ocean City Boardwalk Sells

The landmark Moorlyn Theatre at Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk has sat vacant for about six years. Long ago, families watched movies there in the building that dates to the turn of the 20th century. And for the second time since 2019, someone has purchased the prime piece of real estate smack in the center of what is considered one of the busiest areas -- if not the busiest -- of the Boardwalk because of its proximity to the Music Pier.

Boats “Strut” Along in Ocean City’s Night in Venice

This was one memorable Night in Venice display Saturday. There were floating tiki boats packed with Mummers strumming away. A yacht-themed “Shark Week,” complete with dancing great whites. And a "truck," gliding along the water with a man singing in the back. It doesn’t get any better than that. The theme for this year's Night in Venice boat parade was "Mummers: Struttin’ on the Bay.” But there were also so many other boats with different themes to give spectators a lot of variety.

Ocean City Home Transforms into “Alice in Wonderland” for Night in...

Each year there are bayfront homes decorated in themes for Night in Venice. And on this coming Saturday, Donna and Bill Dorney’s home at 118 W. 17th Street will likely stand out as very memorable. No, they aren’t doing the optional theme of this year’s parade, “Mummers: Struttin’ on the Bay.” But they will have something likely just as exciting, when they transform their home into a combination theme of “Alice in Wonderland” and the sequel, “Through the Looking Glass.” The Dorneys are calling it “Wonderland by Knight,” in honor of the late Ocean City Mayor Bud Knight.
