Flood-Mitigation Project in Ocean City to Expand

Ocean City officials are expanding a stormwater-mitigation project to include more streets in the Merion Park neighborhood and the area around it, which are vulnerable to flooding during rains and coastal storms.

Library Hosts “OC Reads” Events

Ocean City Teen Rises to Rank of Eagle Scout

Chase Palermo has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor awarded to the elite Boy Scouts who have proven through determination and perseverance that they are up to the most arduous tasks. The 16-year-old from the Merion Park section of Ocean City was honored by Mayor Jay Gillian and City Council at an Oct. 6 meeting, while accompanied by his mother and father, Andrea and Chuck Palermo, and friends and fellow scouts from Ocean City Troop 32.

Ocean City’s Fall Block Party a Mega Blockbuster

Ocean City sure knows how to do it up – big – if the Fall Block Party was any indication. In what officials believe was a record-breaking crowd Saturday, the resort was packed. Families came to enjoy beautiful weather, spectacular food, discounts on an array of household items and live entertainment literally stretching from the downtown to the Boardwalk.

Vincent Bertucci stopped by the Acme at Eighth Street in Ocean City on Friday morning to do some grocery shopping. Most of what he purchased was going to people he didn’t even know. Bertucci, of Ocean City, filled his cart with boxes of pasta, jars of pasta sauce, and cans of Progresso soup and some other items. His shopping trip was specifically to help those in need in a nationwide food and supplies drive called, “Faith and Blue Weekend,” being celebrated through Oct. 10.

Ocean City Resident Continues Winning Streak on Jeopardy

Talk about a hot streak. Ocean City resident Cris Pannullo won his fourth straight day on Jeopardy, bringing his grand total in earnings to $111,058. And like the days leading up to Wednesday’s win, Pannullo, was as cool as can be.

Ocean City’s Own is Reigning Jeopardy Champ

Cris Pannullo confidently flashed a thumbs-up, which wasn’t all bluster because Tuesday night, the Ocean City resident breezed through his third straight Jeopardy win. Pannullo, a customer success operations manager in Ocean City, easily outdistanced his two opponents, bringing his total winnings to $83,458.

Gardens Civic Association Seeks to Expand to Help Causes

The Gardens Civic Association (GCA) in Ocean City gives scholarship money to students, hosts the Fourth of July Bike Parade, does an annual beach cleanup and sponsors many other events to benefit the community. Despite having 215 members and being in existence for over 50 years, not that much is known about the GCA, members said. Debbie Sniger wants to change all of that. She has been a member for about four years. A few days ago, she became president, when Duane Sonneborn, the GCA treasurer who handled both roles for several years, turned over the torch.

Ian’s Remnants Churn Up Ocean City Surf

Ocean City may not have seen the full effects of Hurricane Ian as it continued up the coast after battering Southern Florida and leaving victims in its wake. But visitors to the barrier island Saturday watched in amazement at some of the roughest-looking seas the area has seen in a while. For visitors to Ocean City, where it was 60 degrees and sprinkling some light rain around high tide at 1 p.m., it meant a stroll on the Boardwalk and beaches to check out the big waves.
