Visitors Enjoy Holiday Shopping Spree in Ocean City

A white carriage horse clip-clopped down Asbury Avenue in Ocean City and a piano teacher and his students performed classic Christmas favorites, while shoppers strolled in and out of boutique-style shops. The last weekend before Christmas brought together two kinds of shoppers on Saturday – those who rushed to grab up as many gifts as they could in one day to check off their list of to-dos and others who needed that one special something to give to a loved one.

BOE on Verge of Sweeping Change in Makeup

The Ocean City Board of Education will look dramatically different come January, with four newcomers who won the November election taking their seats. Wednesday’s Board of Education meeting was the last one for four incumbents, Board President Dr. Patrick Kane, Dr. Charles Roche, Greg Whelan and Ryan Leonard. All four board members received a warm sendoff from their colleagues and Schools Superintendent Dr. Matthew Friedman.

Volunteers Bake Sweet Treats at St. Pete’s

The smell of freshly baked cookies wafted through the hallway of St. Peter’s United Methodist Church in Ocean City, where volunteers were creating tasty treats for a good cause. The team members at St. Pete’s work together on holiday cookie-making for homebound residents and others in the community each year.

Crown Bank Building in Ocean City Draws Second Bid

There is a bidding war of sorts going on for the landmark Crown Bank building at the corner of Eighth Street and Asbury Avenue in downtown Ocean City. A real estate investment group with close ties to Ocean City is offering nearly $6.7 million, topping an earlier bid of $6.5 million from a luxury hotel resorts developer.

Crown Bank Building Bankruptcy Hearing Postponed

The fate of the landmark Crown Bank building in downtown Ocean City will have to wait a little longer. A bankruptcy hearing scheduled for Tuesday in federal court in Camden was postponed until Dec. 20. The hearing will determine if a sale goes through to luxury shore resort owner Eustace Mita, of Icona Resorts.

Upgrades Planned for Ocean City Library

A new roof is just one of two major improvements planned for the Ocean City Free Public Library in 2023. Starting next month, workers will replace the roof as part of an array of upgrades in the city’s capital plan for facilities in town.

“Brunched By An Angel” Show Mixes Food and Fortunes

There’s a show in Las Vegas creating a flurry of excitement for audiences while they enjoy brunch, sip mimosas and listen to three psychic mediums who walk around the room and give readings. “Brunched By An Angel” opened at The Palms Casino Resort in November with highly acclaimed psychic mediums Reginald Lewis, Loriann Mans and Christopher Allan. The show is quickly gaining popularity. So much so that executive producer Shane Farley wants to bring the show to the East Coast as well, specifically the Atlantic City and possibly Connecticut casinos.

Ocean City Plans New Building For Shuffleboard Complex

There's good news for Ocean City's shuffleboard players. The old building at the shuffleboard courts at Sixth Street will be replaced with a new shuffleboard building in 2023 as part of Ocean City’s new capital plan unveiled by Mayor Jay Gillian’s administration.

Ocean City native Dr. Jason Chew didn’t earn his medical degree with the notion of moving away from home to practice medicine. Chew, a family doctor, wanted to help the people he grew up with and has known for his entire life. Now, he is preparing to open his own office in his hometown.
