Cash-Free Purchasing App is Focus of Ocean City Business Summit

Ocean City’s business community and tourism industry will soon have a new high-tech tool to help them attract new customers with an expanded app offering cash-free transactions. The app, and the 2018 summer season, were discussed at the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce Business Summit at the Ocean City Yacht Club, 100 Bay Ave., Thursday night.

Hilarious “Xanadu” Comes to Ocean City Music Pier

In just one day, the stage at the Ocean City Music Pier will be transformed into a 1980s roller disco with a performance of “Xanadu” by the Ocean City Theatre Company. The show runs Oct. 5 through Oct. 7. It features an original hit score composed by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar that includes “Xanadu,” “Party All Over the World,” “Magic” and “I’m Alive.” It is based on the cult classic movie of the same title, which starred Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. Shows are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5 and 6 and 2 p.m. Oct. 7.

Ocean City Police, Community Join to Celebrate National Coffee With Cops

Susan Hobson doesn’t drink coffee. She didn’t even take a nibble of a doughnut. But she made it a point to head into Drip N' Scoop, 960 Asbury Ave., Wednesday morning to say hello to some of Ocean City’s police officers during the local version of National Coffee With Cops. “I am here to thank them,” said Hobson, a resident of Hamilton Township, Mercer County, who also has a summer home in Ocean City.

Bill Quain threw his hands up in victory as he crossed the finish line at the OCNJ Half Marathon Sunday that ended at the Ocean City Music Pier. In what would already be a difficult race for even the most accomplished of runners, Quain, 66, of Ocean City, did it blind. The reigning Mr. Mature America ran 13 miles with his sister, Jeannine Norris, by his side, acting as his guide.

Starting in Cherry Hill, more than 6,000 cyclists took part in the Bike MS: City to Shore Ride into Ocean City. They rode 75 miles Saturday to raise millions of dollars for programs and in hopes of finding a cure to the disease.

Two Top Educators Join Forces, Friendship, at Ocean City High School

Two teachers who have proven they have that special talent to touch the lives and minds of students joined forces, albeit just for a day, to teach a class at the Ocean City High School. Ocean City High School American Sign Language teacher Amy Andersen, who won the 2018 New Jersey Teacher of the Year award, invited National Teacher of the Year, Mandy Manning, of Spokane, Washington, to stay at her home since the two were attending a weekend state teachers’ conference in Princeton.

Run for the Fallen Makes Emotional Stops in Ocean City

Victims of the 9/11 terror attacks were honored, along with other members of the military who have died, in an emotional tribute during the annual New Jersey Run for the Fallen on Thursday. Members of the military run to honor lost soldiers. The runners visited 72 markers throughout Cape May County, including 12 in Ocean City.
