Dredging Project in Gardens Lagoon Pleases Residents

Homeowners who live near the North Point Lagoon in Ocean City's Gardens section are happy to hear that the sediment-choked waterway will be dredged. The city plans to dredge North Point Lagoon, also known as Gardens Lagoon, in the fall. Currently, the lagoon is so shallow that boat owners find it difficult, if not impossible, to maneuver in and out at low tide.

O.C. Wins “Favorite Beach” Contest — Again

How many times could you say Ocean City has done it again? Apparently as many times as “America’s Greatest Family Resort” wins New Jersey’s “Favorite Beaches” poll. The contest is through the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium. The results of the 2019 survey were announced on the Boardwalk at the Ocean City Music Pier Friday. Ocean City is a perennial winner of the contest.

Sweet and Succulent: O.C. Farmers Market Opens for Summer

Big, juicy, ripe tomatoes, fresh zucchini and homemade pies are just some of the delights crowds can sink their teeth into when the Ocean City Regional Chamber of Commerce Farmers and Crafters Market opens Wednesday. The market has been going strong for 24 years. It is located on the grounds of the Ocean City Tabernacle at Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue, and is held on Wednesdays through Sept. 4 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market features a total of 80 vendors, including food stands and crafter stands.

“Schoolhouse Rock Live” Show Opens at Music Pier July 2

The Greater Ocean City Theatre Company (OCTC) will once again present five family-friendly theatrical productions this summer. OCTC has assembled talented, professional casts directed and choreographed by Shannon Agnew to bring to life a wide range of stories at the Ocean City Music Pier. The 2019 Children’s Series begins on July 2 and 5 at 10:30 a.m. with "Schoolhouse Rock Live!" The pop culture phenomenon and Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and more through clever, tuneful songs, is not only making a small-screen comeback, it’s lighting up stages everywhere. The show follows Tom, a nerve-wracked schoolteacher who is nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching T.V., when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such songs as “Just a Bill,” “Lolly, Lolly, Lolly” and “Conjunction Junction.”...

Boy Scout Troop 32 to Hold Breakfast at American Legion

Ocean City Scouts USA Troop 32 will host a pancake breakfast on Sunday June 30th from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the American Legion Post 524 located at 46th Street and West Avenue. Proceeds will be used to purchase camping equipment and supplies, including two new tents. The all-you-can-eat menu includes pancakes, sausages, coffee, tea, orange juice and milk. Bayside Family Day Makes Huge Splash

Giselle Ardelean, 7, of Ocean City, had a pretty busy schedule to keep Saturday. First, she got her hair done up in a braid with glitter, then she joined the police department as a “junior officer.” Then it was off with her friends and family for a boat ride. Giselle and her mom, Christina, and their friends, Alexis Salisbury, 4, and her mom, Stephanie, of Margate, set out on a journey to the first-ever Bayside Family Day on Saturday at the Second Street Marina in Ocean City. From 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., families had an array of activities to enjoy -- from water sports demonstrations, to live music, to food and activities for all ages. The event showcased the city's bayfront and was a major hit.

Chrome, Fins and Muscle Showcased at Antique Auto Show in O.C.

Vintage car lovers had their fill on Saturday, from 1920s touring cars to chrome and finned-out 1950s beauties, to the ’60s GTO muscle cars and, of course, the beloved Volkswagen Beetle. The Jersey Cape Region Antique Automobile Club of America show on the grounds of the Ocean City Tabernacle is in its 64th year.

Some Ocean City Kids are “Making History”

Kids who live in Ocean City or just visit the family-friendly resort this summer will have a chance to find out more about their hometown or favorite vacation spot, with the Ocean City Historical Museum’s “Making History” Camp. The camp, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 12-16, is designed to teach children about the history of the resort. Some of the highlights include the famous Sindia shipwreck, the actress-turned-princess Grace Kelly, who summered in Ocean City, and the history of the Boardwalk. The cost of the camp is $40 per child. Slots are still open.
