Playing miniature golf was one of Tyler Onesty’s favorite things to do. With that in mind, Sally Onesty, Tyler’s mother, has chosen a miniature golf course as the location for a scholarship fundraiser that will focus on an epidemic that has killed her son and scores of other people – drug addiction. The first ever Tyler Jay Onesty Memorial Scholarship Benefit will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, May 6, at Golden Galleon Mini Golf at 11th Street and the Boardwalk in Ocean City...

Gillian, Flood Clash Over Ocean City Restroom Project

What had been a quiet election campaign in Ocean City erupted into accusations Tuesday that Mayor Jay Gillian is using the construction of taxpayer-funded public bathrooms on the Boardwalk for the benefit of his private amusement park business. Gillian immediately denounced the allegations by his mayoral opponent, former City Councilman John Flood, as “toilet politics.” “I’ve heard of gutter politics, but never toilet politics,” Gillian said in a statement...

Ocean City Looks to Rebuild Eroded Wetlands on a Neighboring Island

Think of it as Ocean City’s little brother – a 133-acre island sitting in the middle of the back bay, just across a narrow channel. Shooting Island, as it is known, is an uninhabited flat land mass under threat from erosion. Among other places, it is visible from Ocean City by peering out over the bay from the public boat ramp at the end of Tennessee Avenue. Shooting Island is now a topic of conversation between Ocean City officials and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. They are discussing plans to help rebuild the island’s eroded wetlands by possibly using sediment dredged from the back bays as an environmentally-friendly material...

Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian Gives Storm Update

I want to update you on the coastal storm that is expected to continue through tonight. The National Weather Service has decreased its prediction for snow accumulation. They’re now calling for 2 to 3 inches. While the amount may not be great, the heavy mix will make the roads slippery, so please use caution and limit travel if possible...

Residents Complain About Brush-Cutting Operation in Ocean City Neighborhood

Many of the cedar, cherry and pear trees that had lined a split-rail fence on property overlooking the marshlands along 52nd Street in Ocean City are now gone. Their stumps are all that remain. “To be honest with you, I was stunned when I counted 42,” Carolyn Logan, a resident of Bark Drive, just off 52nd Street, exclaimed of the number of stumps...
