Two roller coasters have been dismantled and removed at Playland’s Castaway Cove to make way for a new thrill ride expected to be constructed in time for the summer 2016 season.
Playland plans to build a new 125-foot-tall roller coaster, the GaleForce, which will feature a 64-mph launch and a beyond-90-degree drop. (Read more and see video: New Roller Coaster Thrill Coming in 2016 to Ocean City.)
The Python Coaster and the Flitzer Roller Coaster at Playland are now gone, and construction crews are pouring footings for the new ride at the amusement park between 10th and 11th streets on the Ocean City Boardwalk.
Construction of the ride is expected to begin in January and be complete sometime in April.
